A note from Gentiana
I started with one
borrowed machine
I made my first dress for a cousin’s wedding in 2016, in a room I shared with my sister, on a machine I had borrowed and did not entirely know how to use. It took eleven days. I have made better things since, but I have never worked harder on anything.
What I wanted then is what I still want now: for a woman to put on something made for her body, and to stop apologising for how she looks in it. That is the whole ambition of this house. Everything else — the embroidery, the silk, the six fittings — exists to serve it.
We are eleven now, and the machines are ours. But a gown still takes as long as it takes, and I still see every one before it goes.

How we work
Four things we
will not shorten
We cut a toile first
Every commission starts in plain calico. It costs us a week and saves the client a gown that almost fits.
The inside matters
Linings, boning channels and waist stays are finished to the same standard as the outside. You are the only person who will ever see them.
Hands, not machines
Embroidery, beading, hems and finishing are worked by hand. The machine is for seams, and not all of those.
One client at a time
The fitting room takes a single appointment. No overlap, no audience, no rushing you into a decision.
